It reacts with sodium carbonate $(Na_2CO_3)$ to produce caustic soda $(NaOH)$: $Ca(OH)_2 + Na_2CO_3 \rightarrow CaCO_3 + 2NaOH$.$3$. When $CO_2$ is passed through lime water $(Ca(OH)_2)$,it turns milky due to the formation of insoluble $CaCO_3$: $Ca(OH)_2 + CO_2 \rightarrow CaCO_3(s) + H_2O$.
