(A) Lactational amenorrhoea is a natural method of contraception based on the fact that ovulation does not occur during the period of intense lactation following parturition. During this period,the high levels of prolactin (the hormone responsible for milk production) in the mother's blood inhibit the secretion of gonadotropins ($LH$ and $FSH$) from the anterior pituitary gland. Since gonadotropins are essential for the maturation of ovarian follicles and ovulation,their inhibition prevents ovulation,thereby acting as a natural contraceptive method.
