However,the peroxide effect (Kharasch effect or anti-Markovnikov addition) is only applicable to $HBr$. $HI$ does not show the peroxide effect because the step involving the addition of the iodine radical is endothermic and reversible. Therefore,the reaction follows Markovnikov's rule,where the electrophile $H^+$ adds to the carbon with more hydrogen atoms,and the nucleophile $I^-$ adds to the carbon with fewer hydrogen atoms. Thus,the product is $2$-iodopropane $(CH_3-CH(I)-CH_3)$.
