$\Rightarrow$ Intervertebral discs are located between the centra of adjacent vertebrae from the second cervical vertebra to the sacrum. They act as shock absorbers and facilitate the movement of the vertebral column.
$\Rightarrow$ When a disc slips,it can compress nearby spinal nerves. In the lower back (lumbar region),this often compresses the sciatic nerve,leading to severe pain radiating down the leg (sciatica),numbness,and muscle weakness in the lower body.
