(C) In the extraction of copper from copper pyrites $(CuFeS_2)$,the concentrated ore is subjected to roasting in a reverberatory furnace to remove moisture and volatile impurities. After roasting,the ore is mixed with silica $(SiO_2)$ and coke and subjected to smelting. During smelting,iron oxide $(FeO)$ reacts with silica to form iron silicate slag $(FeSiO_3)$,while copper remains as a mixture of $Cu_2S$ and $FeS$,which is known as copper matte.
