(C) The coupling reaction of benzene diazonium chloride with $1$-naphthol in an alkaline medium is an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction.In $1$-naphthol,the $-OH$ group is a strong activating group.The electrophile,benzene diazonium ion $(PhN_2^+)$,attacks the position ortho or para to the $-OH$ group.Due to steric hindrance,the attack occurs preferentially at the $4$-position (para position) of the $1$-naphthol ring.This results in the formation of $4$-phenylazo-$1$-naphthol,which is an orange-red dye.The correct structure is shown in image $821-c1202$.
