(C) Aluminium is a highly reactive metal,and its oxide $(Al_2O_3)$ cannot be reduced by common reducing agents like carbon or hydrogen because the affinity of aluminium for oxygen is much higher than that of carbon or hydrogen. Therefore,the extraction of aluminium from bauxite ore is carried out by the electrolytic reduction of molten alumina $(Al_2O_3)$ dissolved in molten cryolite $(Na_3AlF_6)$ and fluorspar $(CaF_2)$,which lowers the melting point and increases the electrical conductivity.
