(B) Serpeck's process is used for the purification of bauxite ore containing silica $(SiO_2)$ as an impurity. In this process,the bauxite ore is heated with coke $(C)$ and nitrogen $(N_2)$ at a temperature of about $1800 \ ^\circ C$. The chemical reaction is: $Al_2O_3 + 3C + N_2 \rightarrow 2AlN + 3CO$. The aluminum nitride $(AlN)$ formed is then hydrolyzed to produce aluminum hydroxide,which is further calcined to get pure alumina $(Al_2O_3)$.
