The five electron pairs around sulphur adopt a trigonal bipyramidal geometry,where one equatorial position is occupied by a lone pair to minimize $90^{\circ}$ repulsions. The remaining four fluorine atoms occupy two axial and two equatorial positions. Due to the presence of the lone pair,the axial $S-F$ bonds are bent slightly away from the lone pair,resulting in different bond lengths and angles. Therefore,all bonds in $SF_4$ are not equivalent. In contrast,$SiF_4$,$BF_4^-$,and $XeF_4$ have highly symmetric structures where all bonds are equivalent.
