(B) This is an example of the Kolbe-Schmidt reaction. The starting material is resorcinol ($1$,$3$-dihydroxybenzene). When boiled with aqueous $NaHCO_3$,$CO_2$ is generated in situ. The electron-donating hydroxyl groups activate the benzene ring towards electrophilic aromatic substitution. The electrophile $CO_2$ attacks the position ortho to one hydroxyl group and para to the other,which is the most activated position. After acidification with $H_3O^+$,the final product $(A)$ is $2,4-$dihydroxybenzoic acid.
