Hydrogenation is a $syn$-addition process,meaning both hydrogen atoms add to the same face of the double bond. Since the starting material has a chiral center at the $C-3$ position,the addition of $H_2$ to the exocyclic double bond creates a new chiral center at the $C-1$ position.
