(B) The given reaction is a Cannizzaro reaction of $4$-methylbenzaldehyde with concentrated $NaOH$. $2 \ CH_3-C_6H_4-CHO + NaOH \xrightarrow{\Delta} CH_3-C_6H_4-CH_2OH (P) + CH_3-C_6H_4-COONa (Q)$. Here,$P$ is $4$-methylbenzyl alcohol and $Q$ is sodium $4$-methylbenzoate. When $Q$ is heated with sodalime $(NaOH + CaO)$,it undergoes decarboxylation to form toluene $(R)$. $CH_3-C_6H_4-COONa + NaOH \xrightarrow{CaO, \Delta} CH_3-C_6H_5 + Na_2CO_3$. Thus,the product $R$ is toluene.
