(A) When urea $(NH_2CONH_2)$ is heated,two molecules of urea condense to form biuret $(NH_2CONHCONH_2)$ with the elimination of an ammonia molecule $(NH_3)$.In the presence of an alkaline solution (usually $NaOH$),biuret reacts with copper$(II)$ sulfate $(CuSO_4)$ to form a complex compound.This reaction is known as the biuret test,which produces a characteristic $Violet$ colour,indicating the presence of peptide bonds.
