$(a)$ Since sexual reproduction involves the fusion of two types of gametes (male and female),these gametes must contain a haploid number of chromosomes.
$(b)$ The specialized cell known as a meiocyte,which gives rise to gametes,contains a diploid number of chromosomes and undergoes meiosis to reduce the chromosome count by half.
$(c)$ Reduction division ensures the maintenance of a constant chromosome number across generations,preventing the doubling of chromosomes after fertilization.
