u$ ($UV$ light) is a free radical substitution reaction. In this reaction,the bromine radical $(Br\cdot)$ abstracts a hydrogen atom from the substrate to form a carbon-centered radical. The stability of the resulting radical determines the major product. The tertiary carbon (the carbon connected to the other cyclohexane ring) forms a more stable tertiary radical compared to the secondary carbons in the ring. Therefore,the bromine atom will preferentially substitute the hydrogen atom at the tertiary position,leading to the formation of the tertiary bromide as the major product.
