(A) The reaction of glucose with methanol in the presence of an acid catalyst $(MeOH, H^+)$ is a classic example of Fischer glycosidation. In this reaction,the anomeric hydroxyl group ($-OH$ at $C-1$) is protonated by the acid catalyst to form a good leaving group $(-OH_2^+)$. Loss of water generates a resonance-stabilized oxocarbenium ion at the anomeric carbon $(C-1)$. Nucleophilic attack by methanol $(MeOH)$ on this carbocation leads to the formation of a methyl glycoside,specifically methyl glucoside,where the methoxy group $(-OMe)$ is attached to the anomeric carbon $(C-1)$.
