Upon heating,geminal dicarboxylic acids undergo decarboxylation,where one of the $-CO_2H$ groups is lost as $CO_2$. Since the starting material has two $-CO_2H$ groups at the same carbon,the decarboxylation can occur by losing either of the two groups.
